![]() With advances in the understanding of depression and its treatment, late-life depression is highly treatable and can lead to improved quality of life and reduction of the severe effects of untreated depression. Unfortunately, many elderly individuals dismiss even the most intense episodes of depression as a normal part of the aging process and do not report their own symptoms or receive proper treatment. These stresses may include increased medical conditions, greater levels of disability, grief over the loss of friends and loved ones, and increasing fears over both health and financial security. Due to the stresses of older adulthood, late-life depression is often more common than once thought. This is why family and friends must remain vigilant and aware of the symptoms of late-life depression and encourage loved ones to seek treatment immediately. As the clinical presentation of late-life depression does vary tremendously from depression at other ages, this mental health disorder can lead to major impairments - including death - in older adults. ![]() While not a normal part of aging, many senior adults develop late-life depression. Each person progresses at their own pace and follows an individualized treatment plan that includes the activities and programming that can best meet their needs. At our treatment center, inpatient care usually lasts for about five to seven days. In our dual diagnosis unit, we treat adults who have a primary mental health disorder diagnosis and a co-occurring addiction. Our adult behavioral unit can treat a variety of mental health disorders, while our intensive care unit typically provides treatment for those who have thought disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders. In our geriatric track, we provide care for adults who have severe mental illnesses and co-occurring dementia or memory impairment. Our specialized tracks include geriatric care for adults age 65 and older, an adult behavioral unit, an intensive care unit, a dual diagnosis unit, and an inpatient detox program. For adults age 18 and older, we offer a premier inpatient program, which provides high-quality care through five specialized treatment tracks.
